Loss & Bereavement
Grief care and bereavement support resources
When you lose someone important, it can be hard to know where to turn for help. Toneriko gathers information about grief care and bereavement support organizations across Japan to help you find the support you need.
I am the head priest of Korenji Temple in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture. Many people who have lost loved ones visit our temple. I've heard 'I don't know where to turn for help' so many times. That's why I created Toneriko. I hope this page helps you find your next step.

What Is Grief?
Grief is a natural response of the mind and body to the loss of someone or something important. Sadness, anger, numbness, physical symptoms — none of these are 'wrong.'
There Are No 'Stages' of Grief
The idea that grief follows five neat stages has been widely debunked. Grief doesn't move in a straight line — it ebbs and flows. There's no need to rush yourself with thoughts like 'I should be over this by now.'
When to Seek Professional Help
If grief is interfering with daily life — persistent insomnia, inability to eat, or thoughts of self-harm — please reach out to a helpline or healthcare provider. You don't have to carry this alone.
Toneriko provides information only and is not a substitute for professional counseling or medical care. If you are in distress, please contact the helplines above or a healthcare professional.
